A roman myths tells that the raven was once as white as a swan and was the messenger of the sun god apollo. One day, however, the raven said that coronis, a nymph whom apollo loved passionately, had been unfaithful to him. Apollo then killed the nymph with an arrow. But he hated the messenger so much that he turned the raven's feather's as black as coal. This may help to explain the two thousand black and white ravens in an installation covering the whole of the palace garden in Bueckeburg (Germany), installed at the invitation of Alexander Fuerst zu Schaumburg-Lippe.
