For this exhibition in the roof timbering of the Bavarian Museum Friedberg, Germany, Ottmar Hoerl responded with an installation of rats across the roof timbering: 'I made the assumption that generally animals live relatively undisturbed in roof timbering. Rats are very intelligent and adaptable - like human beings. The rats that have been living in a castle for centuries have themselves become noble in a sense. Accordingly, the installation with several hundred golden 'castle rats'. At the same time it is a small ironic comment on the fact that people and other living creatures can take on more exclusive aesthetic life styles in certain places. And a castle speaks for itself as a place to live....'
